Hi, I’m Matthew.
I'm a software engineer with 8 years of hands-on experience in the escape room industry. With over 110 escape rooms played, I've experienced escape rooms from every angle: as a first-time guest, a returning enthusiast, and someone who studies how they're designed, run, and felt by players.
During my time at Escape This Frederick, I collaborated on building and designing custom escape rooms, engineered Arduino-based puzzle hardware, and built their website from scratch. I later built the website for Level Up VR as well. Through that work, I kept running into the same problem: the escape room software running these games was treated as an afterthought. Clunky, unreliable, or simply missing.
That frustration became Escape Director. What started at Mount St. Mary's University has grown into a platform shaped by years of real operational experience. My goal is to give business owners the tools and data they need to run better games and create unforgettable moments for every guest.
How we build.
- 1
Reliability First
Game masters depend on our software during live games. Prepare the room on its Room Station first, and its clock, controls, Live View, and configured media remain available through a connection loss.
- 2
Data-Driven Design
Every feature we build is informed by how escape rooms actually operate. We measure outcomes, listen to owners and game masters, and let real-world usage shape the product.
- 3
Built for the Community
Escape Director exists because of the escape room community. We actively gather feedback from owners and game masters to make sure the product serves the people who use it.
